Old Flags

According to the U.S. Flag Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way."  Therefore, the White Bear Lake VFW accepts all flags that are no longer presentable.  The VFW will bring the flags to the Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake.  Where a Flag Retirement ceremony takes place.

Flag Retirement Ceremony for 2025 is on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

This ceremony is open to the public. There is a short program, then the burning of thousands of American flags being retired, followed by the annual Potluck Luncheon.

The ceremony is attended by hundreds of people, with over 15,000 flags retired.

Ceremony begins at 12:00 p.m.
